What has COVID -19 taught us?

This pandemic has brought and taught us so many things. The good in people the bad and even some “ugly”. I guess the title should really be what should have Covid -19 taught us.
Self-care is the answer. It’s a growing topic today but still not nearly enough. It’s a rather broad topic lumping together anything that is “good for you”. I think though sometimes we forget what is good for us. Is fighting, shaming, harboring anger, looting, rioting good for us? They are unhealthy coping mechanisms. How else have we been possibly getting through this? Over-eating, alcohol, risk taking possibly. These self-destructive activities help us to regulate challenging emotions, but the relief is temporary and directly effect our physical and emotional health.
Sadly many who have been victims to this virus have had underlying health problems. I hope one thing we all have learned is that our health is so important! Eating right, staying active, just getting outside and breathing in fresh air. I am a huge advocate of disease prevention. I feel like it’s all too acceptable to drain ourselves, abuse ourselves let ourselves go and then cover up the repercussions with the prescription or treatment. It really isn’t a good system. Of course for all in some ways damage has already been done so treatment is necessary. However, getting to the root problem or cause would be beneficial instead of just covering it with a “Band Aid”.
God has created our bodies so intricately, strong and amazingly beautiful to too not only function properly and heal! Yes, it takes a few more minutes to let’s say make pancakes from scratch but if you read the ingredients of boxed pancakes you will see why those few extra minutes are worth it to avoid excess sugar, artificial flavors, and partially hydrogenated oil. Which is basically the manufactured form of trans fat, which raises your bad cholesterol, lowers your good cholesterol, and is generally bad news for your heart. Also, did you know diseases feed on sugar? I could go on for days about the deadly trade of for convenient foods but I’ll save that fo another day.
